The Layers That Matter

Protection Starts Beneath the Shingles.

Your roof works as a system. The decking, protective membranes, and edge details each have a job to do before the finished shingles go on.

  1. Roof Decking

The wood base supports the roof covering. After tear-off, we inspect its condition and identify areas that need attention before installation.

  2. Ice & Water Barrier

This self-adhered membrane adds protection in valleys and other vulnerable roof areas. It helps protect the roof deck from wind-driven rain and water that can back up beneath shingles when snow or ice melts.

  3. Synthetic Underlayment

A water-shedding layer between the decking and shingles adds protection beneath the finished roof covering.

  4. Starter Strip Shingles

Starter strips create a straight, sealed starting edge along the eaves and rakes. Their adhesive helps secure the overlying shingles at the roof perimeter, reducing the risk of lifting and blow-offs during high winds.

The finishing details matter, too. Shingles, flashing, hip and ridge caps, and ventilation complete the roofing system. We explain the components included in your project.

Storm Damage & Insurance Questions

Clear Answers.
Confident Next Steps.

From your first inspection to the final repair, here is what to expect when storm damage and insurance are part of your project.

01 Before You File

How can I tell whether my home has storm damage?

Missing or creased shingles, dents in gutters or metal vents, damaged screens, and new water stains are reasons to arrange an inspection. Some roof damage is difficult to see from the ground. Nortex’s 30-point inspection documents visible concerns across the roof and surrounding property.

Should I get an inspection before contacting my insurer?

An inspection can give you photos and repair recommendations to share with your insurer. If you already know there is damage, you can report it directly—do not delay a required notice while waiting for an appointment. Your insurer can explain reporting deadlines.

Is the inspection free, and does it commit me to a repair contract?

Nortex offers a free, no-obligation inspection. Booking an inspection does not authorize construction. Any repair agreement, scope, pricing, and payment terms should be reviewed separately before you sign.

Do you check the outdoor A/C unit for hail hits?

Yes. We visually check accessible condenser fins, coil surfaces, and the cabinet for possible hail impacts and photograph concerns. This is a visual damage check; an HVAC technician may be needed to assess operation or recommend repairs.

What should I do if my roof is leaking now?

Call Nortex to discuss temporary protection and notify your insurer. Document visible damage from a safe location and keep receipts for emergency measures. Ask the insurer before permanent repairs that could remove evidence needed for its inspection.

02 Filing & the Adjuster Visit

Who files the insurance claim and schedules the adjuster?

You report the loss to your insurance company. The insurer arranges its adjuster’s inspection. Once you have an appointment, send Nortex the date, time, property address, and adjuster’s contact details so we can coordinate attendance.

Can Nortex meet the insurance adjuster at my property?

We can coordinate attendance, subject to availability. During the visit, we can point out observed damage, share photos and measurements, and answer questions about the proposed repair work. Tell us about the appointment as early as possible.

What documentation does Nortex provide?

We document observed conditions with photos and inspection notes, identify the affected areas, and prepare a repair estimate as needed. We can also provide measurements and project records relevant to our construction scope.

Will Nortex negotiate my insurance settlement?

No. Nortex’s role is inspection, repair estimating, technical documentation, and construction. We can discuss repair scope and costs with an adjuster, but we do not represent you in settlement negotiations or decide policy coverage.

What if the insurance estimate leaves out necessary repairs?

Our dedicated supplement team reviews repair scopes and prepares supplemental estimates for missing work or newly documented damage, supported by photos, measurements, and repair details. Your insurer determines coverage and payment. Learn about our supplement support.

03 Coverage & Your Costs

Will filing a storm claim increase my premium?

We cannot predict the effect on your policy. Ask your agent or insurer how reporting a loss may affect your premium or renewal before assuming there will be no change.

How do roof age, ACV, RCV, and depreciation affect payment?

RCV is replacement cost value; ACV generally reflects replacement cost less depreciation. Age and condition can affect depreciation. Some replacement-cost claims pay an initial amount and release eligible recoverable depreciation after repairs and documentation. Ask your insurer which terms, limits, and deadlines apply to your roof.

Do I have to pay my deductible?

Yes. Texas requires policyholders to pay their deductible, and contractors cannot waive, rebate, or absorb it. Your total out-of-pocket cost may also include upgrades, excluded repairs, or amounts beyond policy limits.

Will insurance replace the whole roof if only part is damaged?

Full replacement is not automatic. We document the affected areas, material details, and proposed repair approach. Your insurer evaluates the request under your policy, including any applicable matching provisions or exclusions.

Who receives the insurance payment?

Ask your insurer who will be named on the payment and whether funds will arrive in stages. A mortgage lender may also be listed and have endorsement or release requirements. Nortex’s payment schedule is set out in your construction agreement.

04 Planning Your Restoration

Can I upgrade my shingles or other materials?

Yes. We can price material options separately so you can compare appearance, performance, and cost. Upgrades may involve additional homeowner expense; confirm any potential insurance discount directly with your insurer.

What if concealed damage or additional costs are discovered?

We document newly exposed conditions and explain any proposed changes before proceeding with additional work. Supporting construction information can be provided for insurer review when relevant. Additional coverage or payment is not guaranteed.

When can work begin, and can I spread out the cost?

We confirm scheduling after the scope, materials, and agreement are finalized. Weather, material availability, and the trades involved affect timing. Ask Nortex about currently available payment options before relying on financing; availability and terms must be confirmed.

Coverage and payments depend on your policy and your insurer’s review. For policy or settlement questions, contact your insurer, a licensed public adjuster, or an attorney as appropriate.
